Chelsea Ladies got off to a flying start to the new season on Sunday, with summer signing Lianne Sanderson firing a hat-trick as the Blues beat Liverpool by 5-0.
Sanderson, who joined from Arsenal in the summer, saw strike partner Eni Aluko grab herself a brace to complete the rout. The pair were a feared partnership when they played together for the England Women U19s at international level and they will now be hoping to do the same at club level this season. "Me and Eni have known each other for years, we're best mates off the pitch and obviously that helps on the pitch," revealed Sanderson. "It doesn't really matter to me who scores, but we need to strike up a good partnership and with Eni getting two and me getting a hat-trick we have obviously hit it off from minute one. "I was always confident in the partnership and now we've got a chance to show everyone what we can do." As for the win, which sets Chelsea off to a perfect start, Sanderson added: "We're obviously pleased with the performance of the girls and for me to get a hat-trick on my debut is the icing on the cake. "The main thing was we wanted to get off to a good start in the league to set our stall out and that's what we did."
